Podcast transcript repurposing checklist

Use this before publishing content derived from an episode. It is intentionally short: one source-of-truth pass, one adaptation pass, and one final rights-and-accuracy check.

1. Clean the source before drafting

  1. Confirm the transcript matches the final audio edit; remove ad reads, false starts, and off-record sections.
  2. Correct speaker labels, names, product names, links, and technical terms against the recording or a reliable source.
  3. Mark uncertain passages instead of guessing. A polished error is still an error.

2. Build one factual source sheet

  1. Write the episode promise in one sentence: who it helps, what problem it addresses, and what the listener will learn.
  2. Extract three to five supported takeaways, each tied to a timestamp or exact transcript passage.
  3. List every name, number, claim, URL, and quote that needs independent verification.

3. Adapt; do not merely copy

  1. Show notes: summarize the episode, name the useful sections, and link only to resources actually mentioned or verified.
  2. Newsletter: lead with one useful idea, add context for readers who did not hear the episode, and keep the episode link secondary to the value.
  3. Social posts: make each post stand alone; vary the angle rather than repeating the same teaser five times.
  4. Quote cards: review every quote against the audio, preserve the speaker’s meaning, and get any approval your release or workflow requires.
